Teacher of the Year
Ms. Julie Tucker was chosen Olla Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. She has been teaching for two years and has been at OES during this time. Ms. Tucker grew up in Caldwell Parish and graduated from Caldwell Parish High School in 2004. She received her teaching degree from Northwestern State University in 2008. In the 2008-2009 school year, she taught 5th grade, and this year, 2009-2010, she is teaching 4th grade. Congratulations, Ms. Tucker, OES Teacher of the Year! Student of the Year
Waddie is a fifth grade student at Olla Elementary School, Debbie Gauthier, principal. He is the son of Kim and Ron of Urania. Waddie S. was chosen as Olla Elementary Student of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year. Waddie was also chosen to represent LaSalle Parish as the Parish Student of the Year at the upcoming regional competition. In his application for the student of the year contest, Waddie had the following to say about himself: “My name is Waddie and I am eleven years old. I was born in Baton Rouge and lived there until I was two. We moved to Urania because my grandmother became very ill. I am part of a big family. I have two sisters and one brother which means you never get bored at my house. Being the oldest is a lot of responsibility. I always have to think about setting an example and being a leader. My family is very supportive. We go to church at Urania First Baptist Church on Sundays and Wednesdays every week. My family is a great group of people and they have all been saved by Jesus Christ. My family has always been there for me and I think they always will, because they love me very much. My accomplishments have been countless, but two stick out. I have never made a “B” on my report card, which has been tough, because I’ve been in school for seven years. The other accomplishment is when I won a silver medal in our parish Olympics for jumping. I like most sports. I also like going out in the woods and working on the camp I am building. For now, my goal in life is to go to LSU. I think I can make it because I am athletic, and like I told you earlier, I have always made straight A’s. I am striving to never make a B through elementary, junior high, high school, and college. I also hope to become one of the greatest all-around students and players at whatever school I go to. You know that every kid has LSU in the back of their head just hoping to go there. In conclusion, I want to be student of the year because I have worked very hard to be the best I can be. I’m the best all-around student you can have. I think I will represent the school the best, because our school truly is great!”
